Analog to digital information resource services

Government agencies have extensive collections of unique or nearly unique materials. Digitizing these resources not only preserves the information but improves government service by making them easily accessible regardless of the requestor’s needs or location.

Past performance examples for digital asset management

LAC Federal supports the BLM National Operations Center Library as part of larger effort to catalog and digitize BLM publications, providing original cataloging and program management as they coordinate workflow with an off-site vendor to digitize material. LAC Federal staff also perform quality control checks on all catalog records and digital files.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Like many libraries and organizations, the CDC is downsizing their physical collections and space requirements. Yet with a history of brick and mortar operations, it’s a challenge to effectively maintain and expand access to resources while authentically preserving decades of institutional knowledge. To achieve that goal, LAC Federal provides systems and electronic resources librarians who develop and maintain digital platforms that are the primary vehicles for library services. Supported platforms include Ex Libris Primo, Ex Libris Voyager, Ex Libris SFX, Ex Libris Metalib and LibGuides. Since 2014, LAC Federal has supported the NAL digital initiative, selecting materials for digitization and inclusion in on-line collections and exhibits. With stabilization and conservation treatment, we prepare materials for flatbed and book scanners for digitization, add metadata as needed, perform quality control checks and upload digital files to the archival management system. In May 2018, our digitization team of four set and exceeded a goal to prepare at least 1% of the USDA collection for digitization. LAC Federal digital asset management staff worked with IT services at NOAA to develop and launch the institutional repository or IR, bringing together over 20,000 publications, datasets and other research products produced by NOAA researchers. The system was built on Fedora Commons, a digital asset management architecture for integrating institutional repositories, digital archives and digital library systems.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
